Holy water, Chelsea scare me!

Posted in cricket, football tagged , , , , , , , , , , , , , at 19:34 by mspr1nt

There is only one club in London. And, although I have absolutely real affiliation with Arsenal, they are still the team I support. And I still chirp like a Londoner would. Funny, though. Most Arsenal fans don’t actually come from London. Don’t you just love branding and marketing?

Anyway, what I am getting it is….I have taken a fancy to the Chelsea pub in Cape Town. It’s a lovely little spot called Mitchell’s Brewery at the Waterfront and while they have awesome pints, they also serve awesome food. We went there last night to watch the game (which I didn’t really since I was pretty hammered by the time they kicked off) and I am really worried. Chelsea are looking like a bit of a juggernaut. Aston Villa showed that they can be beaten but then it just turns to a case of the walking wounded. I am really, really worried. I still hate them. Not just cause of the heartbreak they caused during the FA Cup last year but just because I hate them. Frank Lampard is a chav and John Terry is a mongrel.

On a differnt note, and I’ll definitely write more on this later, but the mister today referred to my take on Trinidad & Tobago as romantic. And not just because I’ve been cooing over Daren Ganga (so sexy!!) for the past few weeks.

No, it’s a romantic story. Beautifully romantic, it warms my heart. No talent in the Caribbean? Sodd off. Good on you boys for making it to the final.

What’s with the cat and mouse thing?

Posted in football tagged , , , , at 15:45 by mspr1nt

I can’t lie, I get bored very quickly. If I sit in the same position too long I get bored and have to change. I can’t walk or drive the same route twice. It’s simply too boring.

The irony of it all is that I came to be an Arsenal fan. Boring, boring Arsenal. How? Not quite sure, I think it’s that smooth, sexy passing style which is kind of like a cat with a mouse in its claw. Look here it is! Nah, we lied, I’ve got it now. But I’m not going to shoot, no, no. I am going to casually walk it into the net.

I dunno what it is but it’s pretty appealing to me.

That was evident last night in the first few minutes of Arsenal’s game against Dutch Champions Az Alkmaar. Then it all went to shit. They should have pummeled them, ripped them a new one, whatever you want to call it.

Instead they thought showing up will be enough for a win. The Dutch champs had won five and lost five in the Eredivisie, shouldn’t have been a simple task for Arsenal, right?

After the the first goal, fizzle, drizzling their way their Arsenal shut up shop and though that prancing around like fairies will be ok. If you’re a team that tends to leak goals due to your own stupidity you should have at least a 2-0 lead by half time. But not the Gunners. They never wanted it and they should have just lost, not just drawn thanks to an offside free kick with 45 seconds to go. 45 Seconds!

Being the favourites and pitching up won’t get you anything other than embarrassment.

At least Liverpool’s two man team managed to score this time around. But they still lost. Shame

The JR strikes again

This blog is increasingly becoming more and more about my dog. Here is a photo of Vasco – he would be Shane Warne if I were Daryl Cullinan. He is running around like an idiot again.

DSCF4884

As you can see, he is an asshole but I absolutely adore him and he loves a cricket ball.

There’s been plenty of hype about the Indian T20 franchises performing well under par during the Twnety20 Champions League in India and  I think it’s quite great and also proves that cricket will never be football.

Money bags Manchester City are doing quite alright in the English Premier League but money bag (insert cricket team’s sponsor’s name here) aren’t. Lovely. Go on Deccan Chargers!

Once again, though, I would like to reiterated that I really couldn’t give a toss about this whole shebang. I still haven’t watched one game. Go me!

The Sitter promised to write something tomorrow.

where are they all coming from?

Posted in cricket, football tagged , , , , , , , , at 19:55 by mspr1nt

Another footballing weekend (almost) done and dusted and another questionable amount of extra time given to Manchester United.

Granted, this time it was probably warranted but the fact that they ALWAYS score their saving grace in extra time is becoming increasingly suspicious and very questionable. The worst part was that Sunderland were actually playing well and they really deserved to win. Such is the world of football, though.

As usual, luck would have it that I didn’t get to watch the Arsenal game. Whenever it’s a cracker like it seemingly was today I always seem to be pre-occupied. The live text had me pacing up and down and breathing way too fast for my liking. They really have to stop with the testing. From what I could gather it seems as if though we are still fast asleep in defence and Don V is our saving grace. Time for Almunia to step aside? Perhaps.

Watched the Chelsea versus Liverpool game in a Chelsea pub wearing my Arsenal shirt with a few Liverpool fans. Liverpool looked toothless and Chelsea were classy. I hate to say this but it could well be Chelsea’s year. I hope they slip up and prove me wrong but right now they are the club I fear the most. They’re looking tight and like a unit running like a well-oiled machine and they seem to be plugging the gaps where all the other “contenders” are lacking.

All in all it’s been a great sporting weekend and I am really looking forward to tomorrow’s Champions Trophy final.

you’ve been hit by a smooth criminal

So looks like Pakistan will have to get a refund from that hypnotist then?

I’m starting to wonder whether New Zealand are about to execute the perfect crime here? They’re like the average girl at school you never wanted to take to the dance and then, all of a sudden, when she’s on the pages of FHM.

If they pip one over the Aussies I’ll be truly stunned. The best part of their performance is that they are absolutely riddled with injuries and they’ve just sounded a big, fat F off you dicks to all of the non-believers. While they’re probably still pretty shit at Test cricket, this has been quite a journey for them.

But I am not getting ahead of myself. I am well aware of the juggernaut of class that is Australia and just how powerful they are. If not a win for New Zealand, at least I’m pretty sure that it’ll be one hell of a good clash.

I forgot to mention how great it was to see England get knocked out. Once again, they just can’t perform when people expect them to. Perhaps they are sadistic and they take pleasure out of getting their fans still all excited just to let them down. Ah, shame.

On the football front, Sunderland nearly beat Manchester United in the Premier League but, of course, the referee had to oblige and assist them with a little (a lot) of extra time. Was a good game, though. Cha$hki against the Car Thieves today should be pretty interesting. Oh and then , of course, Arsenal will probably lose to Blackburn because that’s what they do when all the big teams drop points.

it gets my heart beating

Posted in cricket, football tagged , , , , , , , , at 15:49 by mspr1nt

When South Africa are done choking, or not playing, I usually have a soft spot for the West Indies and New Zealand.

I suspect it has something to to do with my like for the underdog or less-liked people in general.

There’s a long way to go in this match but it’s pretty exciting thus far. I’m worried about Mohammed Yousuf and Shahid Afridi, though. They are incredibly strong players and so often New Zealand struggle to go for the jugular when it matters. Not a lot of swing and turn on the pitch at the moment and, again, the stands are emptier than a Dutch Reformed Church after a Province Currie Cup match.
Who is really to blame for this fiasco? Sport is all about money these days, right?

Go on you Black Caps!

On a different note, I only realized yesterday that the car thieves are playing the chav$k! on Sunday. Big match that. With Cech missing and Pool being so unpredictable I wonder how this one is going to turn out? Should be a good game.

It’s still beyond me as to why the ICC organized for the final of this tourney to be played on a Monday?

I just threw up in my mouth a little

As if the bollocks ODI tourney wasn’t enough we now have a bollocks T20 to look forward to.

Why, the Champions League is upon us. Who really gives a shit? Lalit Modi thinks that cricket can somehow be as popular as football.

Uhm, no, no it can’t. You can take your lady to a 2 hour footie game and get away with it by taking her for a dinner or a shopping trip later. And you can easily explain to her that the one team must get the ball in the net and the man in front of the net must try and stop it.

Can you explain Duckworth Lewis to her? You can’t. I thought as much. So now we’re stuck with a few more weeks of absolute bollocks cricket.

Australia seem to be well on course to hand England their backsides in the Champs Trophy. Good on them.
